Work be gone!

So I had my last day at my old job on Tuesday, went to my littlest sister's formal 'arrivals' and then drove to Sydney.

Star shaped sushi!
There was also inari, my favourite,
but I gobbled it up before I got a chance to get a pic

The old workplace did OK in putting on a spread for my last day/early birthday. There was vegan sushi, rice paper rolls and some fruit salad. And non-vegan cupcakes. Doesn't really make sense to me that there would be any non-vegan food at a vegan's going away, especially not having any vegan cakes, and I was prohibited from bringing anything because they wanted to do it all for me! Huh?? I LOVE cakes!

What I arrived to on my desk in the morning.
A friend commented that they must have
figured out my favourite colour: BALLOON!

So that was that. I have done two days at my new job and it is exhausting! A good change from the old place, much busier and more engaging, but dealing with customers face to face again (in some capacity) was always going to be a challenge!

Goal fail + life win?

Hmm, so I had goals to write about five things in November:

Vegan flan recipe
Gardening with re-claimed materials in a small space
Vegan festivals

One of these things is not like the other! It's now December...

I neglected to write about soccer. I'd like to say that this is in part due to the fact that because of my move to Sydney I will be leaving my amazing summer 9s team, filled with mates both old and new, and it's just too damned painful to talk about right now! But in reality it's cos I don't really know what I want to or have to say. I was on a high the night I made that goal, a high of playing fun and good soccer, but now I'm not so sure (might have something to do with scoring my very first own goal in our most recent game!).

I am trying to put together an indoor team to play Thursday night indoor in Sydney at Broadway. It's a mixed team and so far I'm the only girl (eeps!)

And re: my goals, I may not have blogged about soccer but I did blog about yarnbombingfinding a new job/moving back to Sydney, and delicious junk food in November, and I completed 13 weeks of full time study with passing marks, so I'd say that goal-achieving wise I'm about even :)

Dr Cakelove, or: How I learned to stop worrying and just make a vegan fruit flan

OK, so boyfriend loves fruit flan, and it was his thirtieth birthday, and I wanted in on eating birthday cake. What could I have done but embark on a flan-making adventure!

There are five elements to boyfriend’s idea of the perfect flan, in order of construction:

Thin layer of chocolate,

Cue immense amounts of stress about making FIVE DIFFERENT DESSERTS! (My mind works in mysterious ways!) And the timing, oh the timing, how long would each bit take to make? Don’t you need 7 years of training to make pastry? My internet searches for vegan flan are bringing back creme brulee looking things, have I lost the ability to understand the meaning of words?!

Do flans even exist? Had I made it all up?

These are the kinds of questions I asked myself in the week leading up to the adventure.

Junk food I have eaten

Bounty burgers purchased for a BBQ but selfishly hoarded for myself! With avocado and lemon juice on multigrain bread…mmm!

Cheese free vege delight from Eagle Boys. I think the pizza maker made mine super topping-ed because I was talking to him about how I used to work for Eagle Boys in Newcastle way back when. This pizza weighed approximately one metric tonne, so much topping!! And the crust was bloody delicious. It was one of the only times I’ve been able to leave pizza in the box and be full.

Just a quickie!

I have just found out that I have been successful in applying for a job in Sydney! I will start on the 8th of December, and my place of employ is a 3.5 k bike ride from my (not so new) home in Glebe.

Suffice to say I am incredibly excited, nervous, apprehensive (I'll be living with boyfriend again after 18 months doing the long distance thing!) and excited. Did I already say that!

Can't write any more, I have two take home exams due in <24 hours! EEPS!

a tale of two tabbies

So I promised a post about cats, and now here are some cats.

This is Cpha (as in "C for Cat", see-fa). I looked after him while I housesat earlier in the year. He was an incredible cat and taught me so much about how awesome older cats can be.
